Lanzarote´s Best Holiday Locations
There are loads of sunny spots to choose from on Lanzarote, one of the seven Canary Islands. As the semi tropical climate at work here ensures that tourists can pick up a tan whenever they visit, even during December and January.
Lanzarote is a four hour flight from the UK but a world away in terms of weather, especially in the winter. When the temperature here still hits the early 20´s, whilst Brits shiver and hide way from the cold. But Lanzarote is also just as popular during the summer months as the wintertime – making it an ideal all year round holiday destination.
British tourists in particular love Lanzarote – over 800,000 visitors from the UK arrived on flights to Lanzarote during the course of 2009. Outnumbering other nationalities by a ratio of at least 4 to 1. With the bulk of UK tourists heading for the large resort of Puerto del Carmen, which is just a ten minute taxi drive from the airport.
As a result apartments and villas in Puerto del Carmen are in high demand. Especially those properties situated in desirable areas such as Los Mojones and Risco Prieto. Which offer tourists plenty of luxury and privacy.
Puerto del Carmen is also home to some of the most popular Lanzarote hotels – such as the Los Fariones and the San Antonio. Which are located at either end of the main Avenida de las Playas which runs from one end of the resort to the other – and which is also better known to locals as simply The Strip. The Los Fariones boasts its very own beach whilst there are plenty more superb stretches of sand in Puerto del Carmen for visitors to enjoy, such as the main beach of Playa Grande and the blue flag winner Playa Chica.
Some half an hour south of Puerto del Carmen lies the newer resort of Playa Blanca. Which has grown enormously in popularity over the last decade. Thanks to its decent beaches and excellent climate. Villas in Playa Blanca tend to be a little cheaper than in Puerto del Carmen, making them ideal for anyone booking on a budget. With most boasting luxury extras such as Jacuzzis and high speed internet connections.
Other desirable holiday locations on the island include Costa Teguise, the island´s third largest resort. And the millionaire’s marina of Puerto Calero, where tourists can rub shoulder with the wealthy wet set.
